Sergio Bizzarro: 25 years’ experience of serving wellness
After graduating in architecture in Florence and a brief period teaching, Sergio Bizzarro started his working life on the shop-floor, but already with a dimension that was unmistakeably entrepreneurial. Having set up his studio and gained some experience as a consultant in some major furnishing stores, he decided, on the basis of a trip to the United States and the discovery of a completely different way of looking at spaces for fitness, to throw his energies into a type of gymnasium conceived in an absolutely futuristic way for the Italy of twenty-five years ago. This was a design that immediately caught the attention of Nerio Alessandri, the boss of Technogym, a company that was then at an embryonic stage. This was the start of a long and fruitful collaboration with Technogym, in which Bizzarro took on, in practice, the role of “design office” for the company. The experience put him at the forefront in Italy in transforming gymnasiums from spaces for physical training to fitness centres for body and mind, and allowed Bizzarro to increase his technical, logistic, plant engineering and emotional skills in designing centres for wellness.
And it was in this field, closely linked to the hospitality industry, that the Studio Bizzarro & Partners established itself. These experiences, gained in a sector that is so diverse, would allow the studio to quickly broaden all its acquired skills and to include the designing of other types of public areas, establishing itself in Italy as the studio of reference for the design of wellness centres and then extending its design work to hotels, residential complexes and restaurants.
